Coptic
|
Coptic music is the liturgical music of the Coptic Church. It consists mainly of chanted hymns in rhythm with instruments such as cymbals (hand and large size) and the triangle. Some of its melodies are identified and labeled as Syrian (called Shamy in the Coptic Church) or Byzantine (called Roumy or Roman in the Coptic Church). The liturgical music of the Coptic Church constitutes an important element of Egyptian music and is said to have preserved many features of ancient Egyptian music. |
